'Raman govt makes sports world shameful'

SR

The Congress working committee member and former chief minister Ajit Jogi on Thursday termed the incident of the state netball team, selected for the national championship, going to Sonepat in Haryana after taking contribution from the public as shameful.

He said the Raman government, which was always boastful of promoting sports and sports personalities in the state, was unable to pay the expenses to the netball players. This has indicated the state government’s fake love for sports, he added.

Jogi said, the state government had lavished crores of rupees on the construction of cricket stadium at Parsada, but when it come to bear the expenses of the netball players who were selected for national level, the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, the Netball Federation and the sponsor company of the sports have turned back from their commitment.

The players were sent after collecting contribution from the public. It was a shameful incident for the sports world, he added.

Jogi said, had the Raman government made a phone call to the Adani group, which, according to the CAG report, had been given undue profits to the tune of crores of rupees by altering the mining clauses, happily it would have borne the expenses of the netball players. But the Raman government, longing for hat-trick in the forth coming election, was centred in itself, he added.

The Raman government has nothing to do with the sports of the state or the performance of the players, he added.

Jogi demanded an impartial probe into the shameful incident by a team of senior sports persons and to take stern action against the guilty.
