Raipur district will take part in a yoga programme being organized throughout the country on March 23. The initiative will set a world record as over 10 crore people are expected to perform yoga simultaneously in hundreds of districts in the country on the day simultaneously.

The yoga festival is being organised by Patanjali Yoga Committee in collaboration with Bharat Swabhiman Nyas, Yuva Bharat and Kisan Panchayat. "More than 10 crore people, including over 20,000 from Raipur district, will perform yoga at the same time on March 23," Rakesh Dubey, district president of Bharat Swabhiman Nyas, told a press conference in the city on Thursday.

"Officials from the Guinness World Record have been invited to cover the event and we hope that a world record will be established," Dubey said.

The programme in the city will be held at Subhash Stadium at 3 pm on March 23. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev will lead the programme from Delhi, said Dubey.

In response to a question, Dubey said that the programme will be purely focussed on yoga and that it will not have any links with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi or any other political party.

The members of the local organizing committee present at the Press conference said the carnival is being held with a view to spreading health awareness and inculcating a strong sense of patriotism in the people.
