An Assistant Divisional Finance Manager posted in the Railway Division Bilaspur was caught red-handed by a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Friday.
“Ajay Kumar Panda was held in his office while taking cash amounting to Rs 11,600 in lieu of releasing a bill of one contractor,” a senior officer from Bhilai office of CBI informed.
Sources in CBI informed that Senior Divisional Finance Manager Ajay Kumar Panda had demanded about Rs 2 lakh for passing the bill of a contractor.
The contractor had made complaint in this connection to the CBI Office in Bhilai. The officers after formal investigation laid the trap. Accordingly, the contractor reached the office of Panda and handed him Rs 11,600 as first installment of the bribe, officers said.
As soon as the officer accepted the bribe, the team of CBI sleuths reached and nabbed Panda.
