Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to participate in a day-long national level symposium convened in the state capital to discuss about new Universal Health Scheme (UHS) for Chhattisgarh on March 15.

Media coordinator of Health Minister T.S. Singhdeo informed that noted thinkers and doctors of national repute would participate in the programme, which would also be attended by local doctors of the state.

The gathering would contemplate on adopting a new health scheme for the state as the ruling Congress felt that the BJP-led central government’s Ayushman Bharat Scheme have certain shortcomings. The symposium would thus discuss plans for replacing the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat with a new scheme called the Universal Health Scheme for Chhattisgarh.

The Congress in its poll manifesto for the 2018 assembly elections had promised the Universal Health Scheme for the state Under Right to Health.   The scheme doesn’t limits beneficiaries to only those from Below Poverty Line (BPL). It promises free of cost health facilities to all.

About Rahul Gandhi’s programme, the media coordinator said that though official confirmation from him is not yet received, he (Rahul) has given verbal consent.
