Governor Shekhar Dutt on Friday inaugurated a symposium on “Adivasi Art-craft: A Culture of Ecology in Chhattisgarh” in the city.

Addressing the symposium organised under the joint aegis of Deshkaal Society New Delhi, Mayaram Surjan Foundation Raipur and Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) at New Circuit House here, the Governor said that holding cultural diversity the Indian culture is a rainbow, and every culture here has its own special identity.

Similarly, all the tribal communities of the country have their specialty. By giving importance to this cultural identity, they could be brought in the mainstream of the society. All departments and institutions concerned need to work with coordination to look into the all round development of tribal community and its each aspect, Dutt said.

The Governor said that while discharging his administrative work in the then Madhya Pradesh, during his visit to the Karhal development block, he felt that the Sahariya tribes in that area have been leading the life of poverty.

During a detailed study on their lifestyle and livelihood an interesting fact has come to the fore that the Sahariya tribes were living in the midst of people speaking Bundelkhandi in the north, and Rajasthani language in the west, but they were using Brij language, which has historical reason. The tribal community believes in the purity of heredity, hence they linked themselves in their own culture.

“We need a holistic research and study to know their life and culture and it should also be ensured that the benefits of the researches should reach the society.” The Governor said that the traditional languages of the tribal communities needed to be promoted.

Chairman of lalit Kala Academy KK Chakravarty said that the tribal community is the protector of the nature and works as a bridge between nature and culture. In this view, we need to understand the tribal community and to translate the road to development. Advisor to Deshkal Society Narendral Kumar said that culture is self-generated and according to the flow of the nature.
