Probe ordered against Hospital for swine flu death

SR

The State Health Department has served notice to the city-based Ramkrishna Care Hospital for not taking adequate safety measures in shifting a swine flu patient to the State-run Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital where she died on Wednesday.

Directorate of Health Services on Thursday ordered a probe into the death of the patient. “We have received information that mandatory procedures were not followed by Ramkrishna Care Hospital in shifting the patient to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital. Even the management of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital was not informed about the status and disease of the patient,” said Deputy Director Health Services SNM Murthy in the investigation order issued to Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Raipur.

The 27-year old woman infected with H1N1 was under treatment at Ramkrishna Care Hospital. On Wednesday she was shifted to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital where she was declared dead by the doctors.

Family members took her for home: Dr Dave

Dr Sandeep Dave of Ramkrishna Care Hospital clarified when contacted by The Pioneer that the hospital had provided best possible treatment and had not shifted the patient to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital. It was the family members who took her there.

“The family members insisted for taking her to their home and we handed the patient to them. They took her away in a private vehicle, said Dr Dave, adding, the Ramkrishna Care Hospital had not sent the patient to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital.

“Even we were not informed that the patient was taken to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital,” added Dr Dave.  He said that he has given explanation to the authorities of Health Department in this regard.
