Private agencies to end drought of school teachers in Bastar

Staff Reporter

If everything goes well, now private agencies will be engaged to supply teachers in government schools of Bastar.

The decision has been taken to overcome the perennial shortage of teachers the education department is facing in the area hit by Maoist

insurgency.

Notably, in Bastar district more than 1150 lecturers and Shikshakarmis Grade I are required to put the education back on the track as against the above requirement only 400 teachers are working presently.

English, Math, physics, Chemistry and Biology are the subjects which have most of the vacancies. Since engagement of part time teachers to impart education in schools has failed to give desired result as also retired teachers did not show interest in taking the responsibility of teaching afresh as was offered by the State Government recently, the department is contemplating to implement new

scheme after Dussehra/ Diwali vacation.

According to District Education Officer D Somaiyya, last month an important meeting was held in Raipur in which this scheme was discussed by the school education department officials as the same scheme has already been tried by Tribal Department a session earlier.

It is believed that after implementation of this scheme, not only the shortage of teachers can be tackled up to some extent, but also the result of board classes will improve.

In fact, the most damning impact of lack of teachers is borne by secondary and higher secondary students.

In these two classes for which Bord exams are held, students pass but most of them are third division result holders and therefore unfit for higher education.

According to the scheme, responsibility of making available teachers will be assigned to some private agencies.

These teachers will take up teaching in government schools and the department will pay for them to the agency concerned.

The entire procedure will be completed on State level whereas the agency which will take the responsibility will have to ensure the completion of courses of the related subject within the time frame and before the end of the session.
