The district administration has commenced preparations for a State-level Marathon to be held here on January 12. The event is being organised by State Sports and Youth Welfare Department. District Collector Ritu Sen convened a meeting at the Collectorate to review the preparations being made for the event.
It was informed in the meeting that the marathon would see participation of as many as 1,080 runners. The race will begin at 7 am from police lines and will end at Balrampur road. In the race, women will have to run 20 km while men 30 km. For men, the running point has been made at 15 km while for women at 10 km.
The top 20 participants will be awarded after the marathon for which Rs6.86 lakh has been allocated. The Collector, while reviewing the arrangements being made for the event, directed that the District Education Officer (DEO) of Ambikapur will ensure arrangement of accommodation for the women participants at Surguja Sadan and Kushabhau Thakre Community Hall.
Similarly, men will be accommodated at Rajmohini Devi Bhawan and Community Bhawan, Gandhinagar. For the medical facility, ambulance and doctors, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) has been directed to make suitable arrangements while for the arrangement of meals, Assistant Commissioner of Tribal Welfare department has been instructed.
The preparation of the stage at the event venue will be done by Assistant Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department.
