Chief Minister Raman Singh on Monday said that the power tariff is decided by the regulatory authority and not by the State Government.
Singh said this in the context of the question raised by leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo in the Chhattisgarh Assembly about purchasing of power on different rates from different agencies by the State Government.
The Chief Minister was talking to reporters in the State Assembly Complex on the first day of Chhattisgarh Assembly’s monsoon session that began on Monday.
Over the question raised by leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo in the House regarding difference in data provided by the Chief Minister and that which was displayed on power company’s website, he said that the leader of Opposition had picked the information on website which was in ‘million units’ and the answer provided was in ‘Mega Watt’.
To the leader of Opposition’s query about difference in rates of power tariffs being purchased, he said, that the regulatory authority decided the rates of power which keeps on changing throughout the day. “The rates of electricity produced from rice husk or hydro power are different from conventional power production,” he said.
According to the Chief Minister, the power tariff rate of NTPC is different and power that is generated by Chhattisgarh Government’s power plants is different.
“The rate of power we purchase in morning hours is around Rs1 per unit and during peak hour or in evening it reaches Rs8 per unit,” he added.
