'Poll duty officials harassing leaders, workers'

SR

The Convener of the BJP legal Assistance Committee for the Assembly polls 2013 Naresh Chandra Gupta has urged the State Chief Electoral Officer to direct officials on poll duty not to harass party’s leaders and workers in the name of violation of Model Code of Conduct.

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Gupta stated that the District Election Officers are raising objections over posting of banners, posters and advertisements

having pictures of Chief Minister Raman Singh and other office bearers of the BJP while saying that it is a violation of Model Code of Conduct and the expenditure incurred for the same must be attached to the candidate’s accounts.

He said that as per the directives of the Election Commission and the meetings held by the Chief Electoral Officer with representatives of various political parties, it was clearly decided that the expenditure incurred must be attached to the candidate’s accounts only after the nominations have been filed. The electoral process in Chhattisgarh would commence on October 18.

Gupta urged the Chief Electoral Officer to direct officers on poll duty not to interfere with the political activities of leaders and workers of political parties or a complaint would be lodged with the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi.
