Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Bhupesh Baghel has claimed that several state police officials are misusing the facilities provided to them like gadgets for surveillance and intelligence gathering for dealing with Maoist insurgency, for political purposes.
Intensifying his attacks on police officials such as Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence) Mukesh Gupta, Inspector-General of Police (Raipur) GP Singh and others, Baghel said that his party will file complaints against them with the Deputy Commissioner, Election Commission of India (ECI).
He was talking to media persons here at the party state headquarters, Congress Bhawan, on Monday before leaving for Kanker to participate in a Congress workers' convention.
Speaking about the controversial IPS Rahul Sharam suicide case, Baghel said that the state government had received the CBI investigation report in the year 2012 itself and that it had recommended action against the official involved. But the government was trying to save IG GP Singh, he alleged.
Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, media cell in-charge of CGPCC, who was also present at the press conference, disclosed that the CBI had presented its report on May 4, 2012. Reading out a part of the report, he said investigations had thus established that the death of Rahul Sharma was suicide. The trigger for the suicide was most probably the call between the SP and the IG in the morning of 12.3.2012.
However, what transpired during the conversation was only known to the IG and he had not been able to satisfactorily explain the same. However, the conduct of the IG in deliberately bypassing the SP and undermining his authority and passing information to media in this regard was being brought to the notice of the state government for taking action deemed fit, he said.
Baghel demanded that ADG Mukesh Gupta, IG GP Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police Shweta Sinha, and IH Khan, who is on extension, should be removed immediately. “We will bring this issue before the Deputy Commissioner, ECI, and we believe that the ECI would take action in this connection”, he said.
Baghel also informed that Congress national vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a gathering in Kondagaon on March 31.
