Staff Reporter

A police constable committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, police said on Tuesday.

L. Govind Rao, posted at Police Lines, was found hanging at the Gokul Nagar Housing Board Colony on Monday, an official said.

The death came to light when a neighbour alerted the police, Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore said.

While the reason for the suicide is not known, the body has been sent for autopsy.

Rao joined the police in 2014 and was booked in 2017 in a cheating case, the officer said.

He absconded after the crime but was arrested and sent to jail. He was first suspended from service and later reinstated, Rathore added.
