Planned repair of Reheating Furnace carried out

Staff Reporter

Flow from the Combustion Air blower operation is controlled by a pneumatically operated actuator. This actuator is linked to the vent mechanism of the Diffuser assembly of the Combustion Air Blower.

In case of any failure, checking of Pneumatic actuator is possible only by stopping the Combustion Air Blower and this results in total stoppage of reheating Furnaces. In order to avoid this, an idea was evolved to work out a method to provide wheel based control of damper at safe location.

During the planned repair of Reheating Furnace no.2 from April 6 to 12 the idea was implemented by a team of Plate Mill Mechanical and Instrumentation personal, a BSP press release issued here on Monday stated.

With this modification, in the event of any failure of the pneumatic operated actuator the personnel attending the fault will not have to work in harsh environment and under mental pressure of affecting the furnace operation.

The fault can be attended by operating the wheel based damper operation with HMI controlled operation for safe operation of Combustion air controlled value of Furnace no.2.

The persons involved in carrying out the work include D.R. Sahu, (Mech) H.K. Adil, (Mech) M.d. Tahir (Inst), S.R. Mullick (Inst), S.D. Bhat (Dy.Mgr-Inst), S.K. Agrawal, Mgr (Mech) under leadership of S.R.Jatrele (AGM-Inst) , S.K. Pal , AGM (Opr.) and R.K.Bisare (DGM-Mech, Plate Mill).

The jobs were closely monitored by Shri MR Prasad, DGM (Opr.), G. Sengupta , DGM (Mech) and Pramod Kumar, DGM (Opr) and very well appreciated by Rakesh  Sharma, GM (Plate Mill).
