Plan for 132 KV lines for NTPC's new mining blocks

Staff Reporter

The Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Company ltd (CSPTCl) will soon be carrying out preliminary and detailed survey for development of 132 KV power supply transmission system for NTPC ltd’s new coal blocks at Banai and Bhalumuda in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, officials informed.

Notably, Chhattisgarh is also expected to add 14,140 MW of additional power generation capacity in its thermal plants between November 2015 to March 2022,  according to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in its perspective transmission plan report prepared for 20 years ( 2014-34).

The objective of the plan is to present broad outlines of the requirement of additional transmission system in the Indian grid during the next two decades.

The National Electricity Plan is under preparation u/S 3(4) of the Electricity Act 2003. This Plan would inter-alia give generation capacity addition for period up to 2021-22  based on integrated resource planning requirements for the country.

Major high capacity transmission corridors have already been planned and which are under implementation would be sufficient to meet import/export of power among various regions in the year 2021-22, officials informed.

This is based on the assumptions of load growth and generation capacity addition as stated in the report.

Initially, the High Capacity Corridors from Chhatisgarh and Odisha were planned with reduced reliability due to uncertainties in generation addition by IPPs. The generations which were associated with these high capacity corridors are coming up in phased manner and till now no major constraint is being faced.

The Chhattisgarh government announced recently that for development of power sector and strengthen infrastructure related to it, a five-year Capital Investment Plan (CIP) has been chalked out.

Under this plan, funds to tune of around Rs 7466 crore have been included and time duration for the visionary scheme has been fixed from 2016-17 to 2020-21.

The works for various schemes including general schemes such as Chief Minister Urban Electrification Scheme, Deendayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana, Mukhyamantri Manjra Tola Vidhyutikaran Yojana, EITC, IT projects, civil works and others will be carried out.

Along with extension of 4500 km-long 33 kv line, as many as 290 substations of 33/11 kv will be developed in the State.

It may also be recalled that  CSPTCl is to soon start work for modification of 220 KV Korba-Raigarh-Budhipadar power supply line for route length of 1.154 kms for construction of new broad gauge electrified East Rail corridor from Kharsiya to Dharamjaigarh coming under South East Central Railway (SECR), officials informed.

The railway line project is being executed by Central pubIic sector undertaking IRCON International ltd for the Chhattisgarh rail project.

The modification is being made on request of IRCON International ltd, officials informed.

Notably, for the East Corridor, the Chhattisgarh government had decided to allocate 14 acres of land in Raigarh district. The Corridor will be about 180 km long from Bhupdevpur-Gharghoda-Dharamjaigarh up to Korba.

Moreover, the  Central government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) each with the States of Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh for critical coal connectivity projects to improve transportation .

Agreement for World Bank loan of US $ 1100 million for Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) (Phase-2) have also been signed, they stated.

Freight train with speed of maximum 100 kms per hour will pass through Chhattisgarh in the East-West Corridor (Kolkata-Mumbai).

The train will traverse through the States of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra as the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned implementation of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) with freight train speeds of maximum 100 Kmph.

The Central government’s approval for construction of 165 km long third railway line between Anuppur and Katni in Madhya Pradesh is expected to facilitate additional coal transportation traffic from parts of Chhattisgarh.

The coal transporation traffic from IB valley, Korba area, East Corridor and Gevra – Pendra Road Project in Chhattisgarh would be channelized through the aforesaid route to the respective destinations, officials stated.

Public sector IRCON International ltd has also commenced work in connection with the construction of new ‘Broad Guage Electrified Double Railway line’ in Chhattisgarh on the East West Corridor.

The work is being undertaken in  Gevra Road-Pendra Road and Dipka, Kathghora, Sendurgahr and Pasan sections, officials stated.
