Patients suffer as water supply affected in dental college

Staff Reporter

Dozens of patients had to suffer and wait for hours as water supply in the Government Dental College was affected on Monday.

The patients complained that treatment could not be provided to them even after their check-up as water supply in the college was disrupted. Water supply is necessary for the dental treatment which involves rinsing and cleaning. Though the patients were registered and charged before hand, they had to wait till the water supply was restored.

According to the college administration, the water supply was put on hold as the water tanks required cleaning. The bore well had developed a snag and therefore the inconvenience was caused. The patients who came from distant locations said the administration should have told them before charging that the treatment could take a couple of hours.

“I reached the hospital for my root canal at around 10 am. After preliminary check up, I was asked to wait as there was no water supply in the ward,” said Santram Yadu who waited for four hours for his treatment.

When contacted, Dean of the Government Dental College Vishwajeet Mishra said the cleaning was unavoidable and admitted that the patients had to wait for a couple of hours. He said that the administration had arranged for four water tankers during the cleaning. “It was necessary to clean the tanks as it could have affected our patients’ dental health later,” he said.

Reportedly, several patients returned without treatment after a few hours of wait. There are three water tanks installed on the college campus and all of them required cleaning. The water supply was restored at around 1.30 pm.
