Sharing the final stage of rescue before Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday, sewage employee Ajrul Haq said the only one thing in his mind was to save Rahul despite a possible risk to his own life.
Haq was speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized here.
Ajrul, who works for the Sewerage System in Raipur, said he was given the final task to lift 11-year-old Rahul from the borewell by entering the dingy tunnel.
The team lowered him into the pit with an additional safety belt. Rahul was found reclining in the pit. He was made to wear a safety belt. The team then lifted both of them.
When Baghel asked whether he was afraid, Haq said: “While descending into the pit only one thing was in mind -- that was to save Rahul even if it meant putting my own life at risk. It gave the inspiration to mentally move away from fear.”
Honoring Haq, the Chief Minister said he would be honoured again during the Rajyotsav.
Baghel said it was extraordinary courageous on the part of Haq that one person put his own life in danger to save another’s life.
The 11-year-old Rahul was trapped in a borewell in village Pihrid in Janjgir Champa district and was rescued after 104 hours of tiring rescue operation.
