Offices wear deserted look as employees take day off

Staff Reporter

Government offices in Raipur including the collectorate wore a deserted look on Friday as employees engaged in poll duty preferred to relax at home a day after a hectic election duty schedule.

Only a few employees who turned up for the work on Friday claimed that most of them were tired and would likely to start work in their respective offices from Monday onwards.

Hundreds of employees of the Raipur district were engaged in the election work that continued for several days. The employees first received training and after that they had to reach the Government engineering college at Sejbahar to collect election materials.

They reached the voting centres assigned to them same night and after voting, they also went to the strong rooms to deposit their electronic voting machines. The employees had to work day in and day out during the entire election process.

Although these employees were supposed to rejoin their duty on Friday, barring a few, majority of them did not turn up. Even the officials who came to their offices, returned home within few hours.

People who visited the offices for work had to face a lot of inconvenience due to the absence of employees. Some of them said most of the works have remained on a standstill for past several days due to election.
