Officers authorised to permit election rallies and meetings

Staff Reporter

Collector and District Magistrate has authorised the Sub Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars to grant permission to political parties and candidates of urban body elections to take out rallies, hold public meetings, use of loud speakers and vehicles etc, officials said.

The officials said that the Collector has issued order in this regard and asked the officers to clearly mention the date, time, place, place of commencement and conclusion of public meeting or rally in the permission to be granted for public meeting or rally.

The vehicles to be used for rally, if have not been permitted by the authorized officer, should be immediately seized.

The Collector had mentioned in the order that the officers should add more points according to the requirement in the format provided for giving permission and thereafter give permission after completing the requirements.

If permission is denied, the officer should mention the reason in the given format and provide the copy to the applicant.

The order also states that if more than one application is received for public meeting at a common venue or for taking out rally on a specific route, then the permission should be granted on first-come first-serve basis, officials said.
