'No role of State officials in NIA probe'

SR

Chief Minister Raman Singh blunted the Congress allegations that State Government was not cooperating with the National Investigation Agency probing the Darbha massacre whereas its Nodal officer was misusing the power conferred on him in ensuring that the probe by the central agency is derailed by denying that the State Government has any role in the said probe altogether.

Talking to media men Sunday, Raman said that the State Government has no interference in the NIA probe in to Darbha Maoist attack on Congress convoy in which 30 people including top State Congress leadership, Nand kumar patel, VC Shukla, Mahendra Karma, former MlA Udai Mudliyar, a number of security personnel and commoners were killed and an equal number of people injured. According to Dr Singh, NIA sleuths were conducting the probe as per their own working style without seeking any help from the State officials. He also denied any officials interfering in the probe.

Meanwhile, State Home department also denied appointment of any Nodal officer by the State Government specially to cooperate the NIA probing in to Darbha Maoist attack. A home department official, on the condition of anonymity, said Additional Director General (Intelligence) Mukesh Gupta was appointed nodal officer last year to cooperate in another probe related to Maoist encounter and not for Darbha massacre of May 25 this year as is alleged by Congress leaders.

Notably, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee acting President Charandas Mahant and Congress legislature Party leader Ravindra Choubey in a press conference on Saturday accused both ADG Mukesh Gupta and ADG (Naxal Operations) R K Vij of trying to derail the NIA probe, specially Gupta misusing

powers conferred on him as Nodal officer to influence the probe, in their bid to seal the truth of the alleged conspiracy behind the greatest Maoist attack to come out in to open and also demanded their immediate removal from the probe proceedings.
