Staff Reporter

last day of ‘Nautapa’ (hottest days of summer season) in this summer maintained the notch of maximum temperature of the city above 40 degrees Celsius on Monday. The sky remained a bit cloudy but it did not rain, further disappointing the citizens expecting showers to beat the heat.

The weathermen claimed that due to a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal and moisture laden winds blowing from that end increased humidity level remained persistent here.

Due to moisture in the atmosphere, the weather was very sticky throughout the day. However, a slight decline of more than 3 degrees Celsius was recorded when compared to the last two days.

The citizens found no respite from scorching heat. The city wore a deserted look with many people remaining indoors due to scorching heat.

Those who had to venture out on important works, made a beeline for fruit juice and soft drink outlets to quench their thirst. Sugar cane and palm fruits vendors also did a brisk business. As per the Regional Metrological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded here at 40.8 degree Celsius and the minimum settled at 27.3 degrees. However, due to moderate rains in some parts of the district on late Sunday evening, the Met Department recorded 9.4 mm rainfall here in last 24 hours.

The weatherman predicted light showers in some parts of the district in next 24 hours.

Champa district recorded the highest day temperature in the state at 43 degrees Celsius followed by Durg with recording maximum temperature as 42.2 degree Celsius. Both the districts received no rains during the last 24 hours.
