No one wants closure of liquor shops: Excise Minister

Staff Reporter

Chhattisgarh Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma on Tuesday said no one in the state wants closure of liquor shops, instead more applications are coming for opening new shops.

Talking to reporters, Lakhma said from Bastar to Surguja not a single application has been received by the Excise Department demanding closure of liquor shops.

Instead, applications are coming to the department for opening of new liquor shops, he said.

However, Lakhma said that a decision on enforcing prohibition in the state would have to be taken by the Chief Minister and his cabinet.

Chhattisgarh BJP chief Vishnu Deo Sai reacted sharply and reminded him about the pledge taken by the Congress for prohibition by taking ‘Gangajal’ on hand before the assembly elections in 2018.
