No mass prayer during Eid

The Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board on Tuesday announced a ban on mass prayers during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per an order, only five persons will be allowed for Eid prayers at a mosque, Eidgah, madrassa and dargah and the mutavalli will be held responsible if lockdown norms are violated.

The Waqf Board appealed to Muslims to offer prayers at their homes to celebrate the end of the month-long Ramadan fasting.

There will also be no traditional shaking of hands with one another or exchange of embrace due to the pandemic protocols of social distancing, a press release said.

Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on May 13 or 14 depending on the visibility of the new moon.
