Not wearing helmet could land you in an unanticipated kind of trouble. You may not be able to get fuel for your two-wheelers if not having the head safety gear. The Raipur traffic police have asked the petrol pump owners not to sell fuel to two-wheeler riders who are repeatedly found not wearing a helmet, despite warnings.

“We have directed the petrol pump owners to first warn the bikers and inform them about benefits of wearing helmet. If they overlook repeated warnings then the rider may not be given petrol for his vehicle,” Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Balram Hirwani informed The Pioneer over phone.

The ASP further said that the vehicle registration number of the erring two-wheelers would also be noted at the petrol pumps. later, fine would be imposed on the vehicle owner, he added. According to police sources, the two-wheeler showroom owners have also been asked for compulsorily providing helmets with the new bikes and scooters.

Notably, it has been about a week since the use of helmet has been made mandatory for bikers in Raipur city. However, the densely populated areas of the city have been kept free from the obligation. The rule has been enforced in the outer areas of the city. The sale of helmet has also seen a sudden jump after the rule came into force as more and more people are purchasing the helmets, in anticipation that very soon the entire city may be brought under the helmet rule.
