No evidence of community transmission yet: Singh Deo

Chhattisgarh's coronavirus caseload is growing fast with over 500 positive cases, but Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo said on Monday that there is no evidence of community transmission yet.

The Minister told the media: "Despite a spike in the number of positive patients and the cases jumping from 59 to 500 in a short period of time, it gives us a sense of relief that there is no sign of community transmission here till date.”

At the community transmission stage, or Stage 3, a disease spreads in the population is such a way that people don't know how they got exposed as they neither travelled to a part of the world battling an outbreak nor did they come in contact with someone they know has Covid-19.

The Minister, however, didn't deny the possibility that the number of infections may further increase as only half of over five lakh migrants have returned to Chhattisgarh.

The Minister, who also holds the Panchayat portfolio in the cabinet, said the Panchayat department was on Monday made the nodal agency to monitor and control Covid-19 in rural areas where the migrants are quarantined.

The Health and Panchayat departments are jointly working in rural areas, he said

In urban areas, the fight against Covid-19 is spearheaded by the Urban Administration Department in coordination of the Health Department, he added.
