Health and Family Welfare Minister and Surguja district in-charge T. S. Singhdeo called upon all to protect and conserve the culture, historical and archaeological sites of Ramgarh hills for the future generation.

Surguja has several archaeological heritage sites, which can be subject of research to know the historical importance of the place, he said.

He was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day ‘Ramgarh Mahotsav’ as chief guest on Monday at Ambikapur.

Singhdeo said, Ramgarh’s hill is known for the most ancient theatre in the world. Mahakavi Kalidas had written ‘Meghdootham’ on the hills of Ramgarh, which is considered as one of the epic poems in Sanskrit. The event will complete four decades in 2019. The event helps people to know about the importance of the region and provide a platform to local, national and international level artistes to perform.

Lundra MLA Dr Preetam Ram said research seminar also held to reveal the importance of the hills based sites.

Zila Panchayat chairperson Phuleshwari Singh said during this period, the hills beauty is revealed through combination of nature and culture. Ambikapur Mayor Dr Ajay Tirkey laid emphasis on development of tourism in the hills.

Surguja Collector Dr Saransh Mittar said that Ramgarh Mahotsav was started in 1969 and has been organised continuously without a break. The caves have been centre of attraction.

After the inaugural session around 33 researchers read their research papers. This was followed by session of poets.
