NCST to probe killing of Bastar tribal youths

Staff Reporter

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has decided to investigate the alleged 'fake encounters' involving the killing of tribal youths in the restive Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

State Congress Chief Bhupesh Baghel a few days back had written a letter to the Commission while informing that on September 25 this year, police had gunned down two youths in Bastar region.

Sonku Ram Kashyap, a minor school going boy and Bijlu Kashyap were shot down by security forces, Chairman of State Congress Media Committee Gyanesh Sharma informed in a statement here.

“The boys were pulled out of their homes and were then shot,” Sharma claimed.

He further informed that Bhupesh Baghel while demanding an investigation into the matter had written a letter to the Governor, Director General (Naxal Operation) and NCST.

Chairman of NCST Dr Rameshwar Oraon while taking note of the letter written by Baghel has decided to send Commission’s Vice Chairman to look into the matter, he added.
