In a tragic turn of events, the girl who was purportedly the lone eyewitness in the murder of a youth named Yuvraj alias Akash Chouhan in Naya Raipur on October 23 this year, allegedly committed suicide at her residence in RVH Colony at Khamtarai here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the family members of deceased girl have alleged that the girl had committed suicide under police pressure during investigation into the youth's murder.

According to the police, after taking tea around 6 am at her home she went to her room and hanged herself. After the news of girl’s death spread, a large number of locals gathered at her home in Khamtarai.

The victim’s family members have alleged that police frequently used to summon the girl for questioning and under this pressure, she committed suicide.

However, police have turned down the allegations.

“We have found the suicide note of the victim girl in which she has categorically mentioned that she was alone responsible for taking the extreme step,” Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (City) Vijay Agrawal said.

The ASP further stated that in the suicide note, the girl had praised Station House Officer (SHO) Mandir Hasoud and said that he had treated her as his sister.

s“The girl has even requested to call SHO when her last rites would be performed. She had also mentioned in the letter to inform Akash’s mother -- the youth who was murdered about her death so that she could feel better,” the ASP added.
