Naxals' small action committee behind major Sukma attacks

Staff Reporter

The Naxalites’ small action committee members arrested from Sukma district headquarters have confessed that they had played significant role in the blast of the BSF vehicle at Kerlapal, kidnapping of Collector Alex Paul Menon, attack on cops at Dornapal Murga Bazar and in the killing of Koya Mandar at Sukma Murga Bazar.

The police got unexpected success in arresting the small action committee members Odiyami Ganga, Mandvi Mages and Sodi Joga, aged between 20 and 24. During interrogation, it has been revealed that the Naxalites, by forming small action committee, woo youths of the Naxal-affected areas to their fold and make them execute the attacks.

After the formation of Sukma district, the Naxalites, in order to register their presence in the city areas, have been in the look out for executing some massive attacks through the small action committee during Makar Sankranti. However, because of the vigilant police, their plan failed and the police have been successful in arresting three members of the outfit.

Though the Naxalites have failed in executing their plan in Sukma city areas, fear of them has been gripped the whole city, because of the attack they had made earlier. Besides, a child has suffered gunshot injury in his leg, though there is no loss of life.

After the surrender and arrest of some big Naxal leaders following the Jheeram Ghati attack in the Naxalite affected Bastar region, it seems that their activities have weakened in the region. If some effective action plans were taken to control the small action committee, the Naxalites could be rooted out from the Bastar region, says an official in conditions of anonymity.

Talking to The Pioneer on Saturday Additional Director General of Police (Naxal operation) RK Vij said, “Maoists have been using small action team for a long. It was alertness of police due to which the small action team came in the net of Police in Sukma.”
