nNaxalites killed a former colleague who had surrendered last year in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on suspicion that he was a police spy, an official said on Wednesday.
Dirdo Bheema (35) was hacked to death by the rebels near his village Mutheli in Kukanar police station limits on Tuesday night, Sukma's Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha told The Pioneer over phone.
According to preliminary information, about 20 Maoists, some of them armed, barged into Bheema’s house and took him to a nearby forest.
They accused him of acting as a police informer before killing him, the officer said. The body has been sent for post mortem.
Bheema left the Maoist organization last year and was living in his village. He had not officially surrendered to the police but he was no longer involved in Maoist activities, said the officer.
A case has been registered, Sinha said, adding that a combing operation is on to trace the assailants.
