Naxal problem to end soon: Jual Oram

Staff Reporter

Naxalism is a very old and complex socio-economic problem which cannot be solved politically, opined Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, while interacting with reporters here on Saturday.

He had reached Bastar as part of ‘Vikas Parv’ being celebrated by the Central Government to inform people about its achievements during the past two years.

“We promise that this problem will not linger for long and will end defiantly because in a democratic nation the ballot rules and not the bullet,” he said.

According to the minister, Naxalims has started to weaken and the Naxals are returning to the mainstream of development.

The government has sufficient funds for welfare and rehabilitation of Naxals however still the government puts up any fresh demand it can be considered, he stated.

To a query about return of black money he suggested to wait for some more time.

Replying to question about problems being faced by people displaced from Polavaram Dam he said that the previous UPA regime had provided clearance to the dam and also the people being affected by dam were handed over with compensation amounts on old rates.

“By demanding compensation on new rates they are trying to create unnecessary hurdles,” he said.
