Nangur, Mardum lose race for block-hood

Staff Reporter

Chairman of Block Reorganisation Commission S K Mishra Monday struck down the demand for granting block status to Nangur and Mardum on the basis of lack of the required number of Panchayats falling within their respective area as also lesser size of population than the minimum requirement for the purpose. On the other side, barring Dantewada MlA Bhima Mandawi and District Panchayat President lachchhuram Kashyap, no public representative reached the public hearing on the issue.

Notably, Block Reorganisation Commission chairman S K Mishra started the public hearing half an Hour late in which large number of public along with Mandawi and Kashyap participated.

Speaking first of all in the public hearing district Panchayat President lachchhuram Kashyap put up the demand for granting block-hood to Mardum as also aligning Harrakoded and Erfund with Barsur Block. He also suggested to include Surguda Bodenar in to Bastanar Block. However,  citing the lesser number of Panchayats falling under its limits as well as smaller population than the required, Mishra was of the view that these two vital factors will create practical hurdle in the way of granting block-hood to Mardum.

Next to Kashyap, sarpanches and secretaries of Chhote Kawali, Kaikagarh, Puspal, Ulnar, Nangur, Bademurma, Biranpal, Netanar, Jamabada, Nagalsar, Manjhiguda, Kawalikala, Kakarwada, Kolawada, Ghatpadampur and Sargur of Jagdalpur Janpad demanded to make Nangur a block considering its geographical location, but citing the lesser number of panchayats and smaller population than required for the purpose, Mishra rejected their suggestions as well. Sarpanches of Koleng and Chhindgur villages of Darbha block had come to announce their decision to form the part of the proposed Nangur block  but their suggestions were also overruled by the commission chairman. Around 30 to 40 people including Chaituram, Amal Bais, Arun Sethia of Nangur area and Koleng sarpanch Panduram presented their views in support of their demand but when Mishra refused to budge, they came out of the public hearing expressing anger on the attitude of the commission chairman alleging that injustice was being done with them by the commission.

They also raised questions on the absence of public representatives alleging that when there was time to put the demand solidly before the commission for block hood none of the public representatives were in sight but when the time would be over a number of these leaders would come out to claim the credit for the -same.
