MLAs dress code catches eyeballs in spl assly session

Staff Reporter

During the two-day special session of Chhattisgarh State Assembly, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, all the members of assembly, and also Governor, were dressed in a similar dress code, made of traditional kosa fabric, transcending their political differences.  Women members also wore identical sarees.

All the members could be seen in a relaxed mood as there was no question-answer session like normal proceedings of the House. But discussions on different aspects of Gandhiji’s life and his philosophy were held.

The odd one out among the MLAs was Congress legislator from Rajim, Amitesh Shukla. He was in normal white colour ‘kurta’ and ‘pyjama’. Asked about the reason for his dissimilar dress code,  Shukla said, “It is my non-cooperation movement. You are all investigative journalists, you people can make enquiry for such a protest.”

He further said, “I am the foot soldier of Rajiv ji and I’m bounded by the party. I will not be able to reveal much now. Like the Bhishma Pitahmah was bounded by the throne, similarly I am also bounded by it.” As per information, he was irked for being allotted a seat in the second row.

Inside the House, BJP leaders backed him for his ‘satyagraha’ for registering protest against the government for not giving ear to his resentment.
