Chhattisgarh Forest, Housing and Environment Minister Mohammed Akbar on Wednesday announced a probe into excess dumping of fly-ash generated from the power generation companies in Raigarh district.

Raising the issue during the monsoon session, Raigarh Congress MLA Prakash Shakrajeet Nayak said that DB Power Ltd has dumped more fly-ash than permitted by the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board. He sought a probe.

Congress MLA Ramkumar Yadav also sought a probe after raising a similar issue against RKM Company in village Khekrabhat.

In reply, Minister Akbar said permission had been granted to dump the fly-ash in low-lying areas. The        permission for dumping of 28,000 tonnes has been given while only 27,000 tonnes has been dumped.

But Nayak insisted that the dumping was 10 times more than the target. The Minister then promised an investigation.
