Congress party on Saturday alleged that the processing-plant from where the milk that had claimed lives of two children in Bijapur district was supplied — has not been inspected.
“After consuming flavoured milk under the ‘Amrit Yojana’ launched by state government, two children had died in Bijapur district. Despite this incident the plant from where the milk was supplied has not been inspected,” stated Sushil Anand Shukla, spokesperson Chhattisgarh Congress.
According to Shukla, the Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Dairy Federation runs a milk packaging plant at Kharora. The scented milk from this plant is supplied to various Anganwadi centres which are then provided to children.
He further informed that the plant is a joint venture of Chhattisgarh Rajya Beej Evam Krishi Vikas Nigam limited, CG Soya and Siscon Agency.
“The officers of dairy federation are claiming that under normal temperature the milk is safe up to 90 days. Its packing is done in such a way that the milk is bacteria free. It should be investigated that before supplying of milk it was tested in lab or not,” Shukla said.
Few packets of every batch of milk being supplied are also kept as samples and after Bijapur’s incident the packets were not sized and attempt to hush up the issue is going on, he claimed.
Alleging that the government was trying to save guilty persons, he said that Congress party demands investigation from an independent agency and also registering of criminal offence against persons involved in it.
