The health of migrant labourers who have returned to Chhattisgarh from Covid-19 hotspots should be specially monitored, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister T.S. Singh Deo said on Monday, as the state saw an unprecedented rise in coronavirus positive cases.

The Minister held a video conference with district Panchayat Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) to review the arrangements in quarantine centres.

He directed that the health all migrants who arrived from various hotspot areas in different states should be directly monitored.

Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education) Renu Pillai, Panchayat and Rural Development Department Principal Secretary Gaurav Dwivedi and Health Secretary Niharika Barik Singh gave necessary guidance and directives to the CEOs on different aspects.

The Minister said that workers who complete the quarantine period should be allowed to leave only after a comprehensive health check-up.

Even after releasing them, they should be kept in home quarantine for 10 days.

The Minister suggested constituting a team of Panchayat representatives, residents, renowned workers and literacy motivators to monitor the quarantined workers, both at the camps and home.

On pregnant women and children in the quarantine centres, he asked the Women and Child Development Department to provide nutritious food.

The Minister called for a skill mapping of the workers so that employment can be arranged locally based on their skills and training.

He also spoke about providing jobs to villagers under different schemes including MGNREGA.
