The Congress party has termed villagers approaching National lok Adalat in large numbers for seeking payment of works carried out under MGNREGA as ‘unfortunate and exposing gap between precept and practice of the BJP ruling Government.’

As many as 2,24,741 cases including that of payment to MGNREGA workers have been identified for the National  lok Adalat to be held here on December 6, a press release issued hereon Friday stated.

The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) spokesperson, Mahendra Chhabda slammed the State government for its failure in clearing due payments to the villagers while further forcing them to approach the court.

He said that the previous Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre had started MGNREGA to ensure 100 to 150 days employment for villagers.

“As the State Government failed to furnish record of payments so far made to the villagers under MGNREGA to the Central Government and the later also stopped the remaining payment from the scheme” he claimed.
