MCI issues guidelines for holding MBBS exams

Staff Reporter

The Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India (MCI) on Wednesday issued guidelines to hold exams for the MBBS medical courses amid the coronavirus pandemic after rejecting a proposal for general promotion.

For conducting practical MBBS exams on July 16, Vice Chancellors of different medical universities met through video conferencing, an official press release stated.

Board General Secretary Dr Rajeev Vats said that if there is only one medical university in a state, then professors from different medical colleges can be called as external examiners.

The board rejected a proposal for general promotion, the press release said.

It said that the exams of MBBS first year students should be conducted within one month of the opening of colleges.

MBBS final year and supplementary examinations that could have been held in the early months of 2020 should be held as soon as possible so that students may proceed on their internship, the statement said.

The second and third year MBBS (part one) and final MBBS 2020 exams can be completed within two or three months after the completion of the course, the press release stated.

MCI officials said that all the executive boards had provided relief to the students in undergraduate and postgraduate medical classes due to Covid-19. Only the guidelines for MBBS exams were waited for the past two months.

On conducting Practical/Clinical Examinations, most medical colleges had expressed their difficulty to adhere to the existing               regulations to examine the      students, especially in clinical subjects, the press release said.
