A marathon race was organised by district sports and youth welfare department to mark the occasion of National sports day celebrated in memory of Hockey wizard Major Dhayanchand on August 29 every year. large numbers of youth participated in the race which was divided in two category men and women respectively. Football and hockey matches were also held on Thursday.
Ajay Trevedi assistant director Sports and youth welfare department official informed that the race ws divided into men and women category which saw huge participation. The men’s participants had to cover a distance of 20 kms for winning while the distance for women was stipulated up to 10 kms.
The race started on early Thursday morning from Ma Danteshwari Chowk main road which was flagged off by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) SR Salam. Jagdalpur-Jeypore road was the running track decided for participants.In the male category Senapati Bharti of Bakawand won the first place while Jageshwar Kashyap lohandiguda and Raitu Ram Mandawi were at second and third place respectively. They were conferred with cash award of Rs 5000, 2500 and 1500.
Similarly in the women category Divya Poyan of Tokapal bagged the first prize while, Mangali Mandavi and Kritika Poyam had to satisfy with second and third place. They were also given cash awards and citations.In addition to the marathon a football match was also organized by District Olympic Association in association with district sports and youth welfare department. A hockey match was also played at lalbagh ground which was organized by local hockey association.
