The trooper who was abducted by Maoists in restive Sukma district was released on Thursday, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sukma Santosh Singh informed.
“On what grounds the abducted the jawan Madvi Soma was released is still unclear but it is a matter of relief that he is safe,” the ASP said.
Notably the Assistant Constable Madvi Soma was kidnapped by insurgents along with one villager while he was travelling in a public transport bus and identified by Maoists while they were checking the bus in which he was travelling at Gorgunda region a few days back.
“The villager was released after two days while the police jawan was kept hostage. After keeping the Assistant Constable Soma in custody from around six days, the rebels released him on Thursday,” Singh said.
According to the ASP, a police team were sent into jungle for rescuing the jawan and the villager and also for negotiating with ultras for his release.
However, after the Bijapur incident in which four police jawans were killed ,the fate of Madvi Soma seemed uncertain. Soma has not been questioned as he was in a state of shock. He was released in the jungles of Pala Magdu about 6 km from Sukma, Singh said.
It may be recalled that Naxals had killed four police personnel after holding them hostage in Bijapur district.
