A villager was killed by Maoists on suspicion of being a police informer in restive Kanker district of Bastar, police said on Saturday.
The body of Sagau Ram Sori (28) was found in the forests near his native village Belodi under Amabeda police station limits, Kanker District Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jai Prakash Badhai said.
Sori was picked up by ultras from Belodi. Some locals spotted his body in the nearby forest and informed police, following which security forces were rushed to the spot, the ASP further said.
Prima facie Sori was strangled while the exact cause of his death will be known once postmortem report is out, Badhai added. The exact reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained as he was not on the target of ultras, he said.
But, preliminary investigation revealed that rebels killed him on suspicion of being a police informer, Badhai further said.
A combing operation was launched in the region to trace the assailants, he added.
