nA 35-year-old man allegedly strangled his mother, his wife and their two children before     committing suicide in a village in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district on Tuesday.

After being alerted by locals, police found the bodies of Kamlesh Sahu, his mother Lalita Bai (60), wife Pramila (30), daughter Kirti (10) and son Narendra (6) at their house in Kendri village, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Yadav said.

"Preliminary post-mortem report suggests that Kamlesh strangled the four others before committing suicide,” the officer said.

The viscera of the bodies have been preserved to find out if any poison was used in the homicide, he added.

More details will be available after the detailed autopsy, Yadav said.

Chhattisgarh Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu spoke to Yadav over phone and told the police to find out the reason behind the incident, a government press statement said.

Yadav said the police were also trying to find out if the    family was undergoing any financial stress. Kamlesh was a labourer and the family had      celebrated Diwali, he said.
