Mahasamund is one of the worst Covid-19 hit districts in Chhattisgarh but strict adherence to Covid norms has helped 119 villages in the district to remain free of the pandemic.
While several parts of the district have turned into containment zones, these villages have become role models, showing how teamwork can keep Covid at bay.
According to District Collector Doman Singh, apart from the administration, the sarpanchs of these villages took an active role in promoting awareness among the people on the need to follow the Covid-19 protocol.
The sarpanchs ensured that there would be no congregations or meetings. Maintaining social distance, over a period of time, proved a boon to the people.
“There has not been a single Covid-19 positive case in these 119 villages ever since the first wave. These villages include 13 in Pithora block, 37 in Basna and 69 Saraipali,” the official said.
