list of ration cardholders will be read out and eligibility of beneficiaries will be confirmed before people in the gram sabhas to be organised in all villages of Chhattisgarh from January 23. In this regard, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection directorate on Monday issued a circular to Collectors of all districts, informed in an official statement issued here on Tuesday.
It was mentioned in the circular that the directorate in its circular issued on March 23,2013 had instructed to get the list of beneficiaries marked for ration card approved in the gram sabha meeting, the proceedings of which has been completed. From January 23 onwards gram sabhas will be conducted in all the villages of the State. Publication of the list of ration cardholders under the Chhattisgarh Food and Nutrition Security Act, reading and confirmation of the eligibility of beneficiaries would be included in the agenda of the gram sabha.
The circular said that if the list of ration cardholders has not yet approved in gram sabha, its approval would be taken in the next gram sabha meeting. Though the gram sabha’s approval has been received, then also the list should be read in the next meeting and ineligible ration cardholders should be identified. It should also be confirmed that separate ration cards have not been issued to different members or, in the name of husband and wife or major male-female members of the same family in different eligibility categories.
For the monitoring of the proceedings of the gram sabhas, employees of food and revenue departments should be deployed as nodal officers in the ration card team. The report of the action taken should be submitted to the food department by February end, the circular instructed.
