labourers in the Bastar region are finding a new reason to migrate to urban areas in search of work.
The labourers while finding sufficient employment in both State and Central Government schemes in their region are getting ambitious to earn more by finding work in bigger cities within and outside Chhattisgarh.
At times an entire group of families from a village move out to look for work in the cities in other States. The labourers from Chhattisgarh travel to as far as Hyderabad and Bengaluru in the south while also migrating to find work in cities of Maharashatra and Gujarat.
However, many of the labourers disclosed to The Pioneer that they don’t call their movement to other cities as ‘migration’ as they like to temporarily work in bigger cities and return to their villages.
In-charge labour Officer J S Potai stated that there is no dearth of work in rural and urban areas of the district. There is no such wave of labour migration from the district. Many labourers just want to travel to cities for having a look at urban areas, he said.
