A joint team of Narayanpur police and Andhra Pradesh (AP) police arrested a man wanted in connection with a case of human trafficking the other day. According to Narayanpur Station House Officer (SHO) Sanath Sonwani, the arrested was identified as Prakash Chandra, a resident of Durg district who was wanted in connection with a human trafficking case.

The accused, the police office said, was believed to be kingpin of a gang that mostly targetted poor villagers as their victims.  The gang, he said, on pretext of providing high paying jobs took them to various cities and forced them to work as bonded labourers in companies. The gang was mostly involved in trafficking villagers from Chhattisgarh to Andhra Pradesh. The joint team on Friday acting upon a tip off raided the house of Chandra in Eibi Colony and arrested him.

He was later booked under Sections 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave), and 371(habitual dealing in slaves) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Earlier, police had  rescued 56 bounded labourers from Andhra Pradesh whom the gang had supplied.
