The elections of chairperson of various committees of Gariaband Zila Panchayat were suspended following alleged kidnapping of a member. Police arrested the accused and sent him to jail on Saturday.
According to information, the polling for chairperson of various committees of Gariaband Zila Panchayat was to be held at the Panchayat office. Zila Panchayat prez Shweta Sharma, vice-president Paras Thakur, members Neeraj Thakur, Pushpa Sahu and Pannalal were waiting for other members when Sharma received a call about alleged kidnapping of a member lokeshwari Netam by Hemant Sang, his wife Homadevi Sang and Pappu.
Sharma informed Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pathak about the incident. Soon it was learnt that lokeshwari Netam has managed to escape from the clutches of kidnappers and had reached the office of SP. Pathak listened to the incidents from Netam and a case was registered by police against Hemant Sang under section 365, 342, 506 and 34. He was arrested and produced in the court on Saturday and sent to jail on 15 days remand.
The accused however refuted the charges and claimed that he was being implicated in false case. Netam said that she was kidnapped to get advantage in the election. Shweta Sharma said that the polling has been suspended and will be held soon. “We will not permit any influence or pressure politics in the Zila Panchayat,” said Sharma.
