Former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Dr Charandas Mahant are confining their campaigns to their Mahasamund and Korba lok Sabha constituencies, respectively, as candidates for the two seats, party sources here informed.
Jogi being one of the star campaigners chosen by the Congress party in Chhattisgarh remains in huge demand from party workers in other lok Sabha constituencies but has decided to move out of Mahasamund only after polls are conducted in the constituency, sources informed.
It was learnt that Union Minister of State Dr Charandas Mahant has also restricted himself to campaigning in his constituency Korba while the party workers in Bilaspur want him eagerly to campaign in their constituency also.
The Congress party has already released its list of star campaigners, in which, besides Jogi, State president Bhupesh Baghel, leader of the Opposition TS Singh Deo, former leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey, former State president Dhanendra Sahu, former minister Satyanarayan Sharma and other leaders have been included.
Among them, Jogi is considered as the highest crowd-puller but is facing stiff challenge in his own constituency, Mahasamund. This apart, leader of the Opposition TS Singh Deo has been giving more time to campaigning in Korba, besides Sarguja region.
With barely six days remaining for campaigning for the first phase of polling in Bastar to end, the Congress candidate in Rajnandgaon, Kamleshwar Verma, has a tough battle ahead, pitted against BJP candidate Abhishek Singh, who is the son of the Chief Minister.
