Jogi loyalists Maru, Banjare quit JCC-J, may join Congress

Staff Reporter

Days after the JCC-J decided not to contest Lok Sabha elections in the state, a rebellion broke out in the party on Wednesday with two of its senior leaders resigning leveling serious allegations against party president Amit Jogi.

JCC-J’s Rajnandgaon district unit president Mehul Maru and Baloda Bazar district president Yogesh Banjare tendered their resignations from the primary membership of the party.

Both of them were regarded as loyalists of party supremo and former chief minister Ajit Jogi.  They termed Amit Jogi, son of Ajit Jogi, autocratic.

Maru in his resignation letter also criticized the decision of the party not to field candidates in the Lok Sabha polls and said that it would affect the relevance of the party in the state.

The JCC-J recently decided to leave all the 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state for its alliance partner BSP, while relegating its focus on Panchayat and civic body lections.

He said the decision of the party not to contest elections dented morale of party workers and they were disassociating party activities.  He further claimed that Ajit Jogi had no role in the party organization now and that his son was single handedly handling the party. “Instead of giving priority to the state, the party is only giving importance to the interest of Amit,” he alleged.

In what can be viewed as an indication of his future course of action, Maru praised the Congress government headed by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

Maru said he was committed in his fight against the communal forces in the state. Banjare also lauded the functioning of the Congress government triggering speculations that the duo might soon join the ruling party.
