Jobi police outpost now powered by solar energy

Staff Reporter

The remote Jobi police outpost in the district now receives uninterrupted power supply with the installation of solar photovoltaic power plant. Thanks to the efforts of Surguja Development Authority and the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA).

The Surguja Development Authority had sanctioned `12.84 lakh for installing solar plates at the police outpost, which is about 80-km away from Raigarh district headquarters. The solar plates together of 4 kilowatt have been installed at the outpost by the CREDA.

As many as 16 plates each of 2.5 watt have been installed on the building of the outpost. With this solar system, fans, tube lights, computers and other electronic gadgets work day and night without any interruption.

The solar lighting installed at the outpost not only light-up its building, but the nearby colonies also. It has of special significance in this remote outpost, which was experiencing regular power cuts, especially during summer season.

On April 7 this year, the Chhattisgarh government decide to establish Solar Photo Voltaic Power Plant (SPVPP) of 2 KV capacity each in the police stations and base camps in insurgency infested districts of Bastar region.

The equipment installed ensures uninterrupted power supply in the hinterland. The base camps and police stations located in regions like Pakhanjur, Koylibeda, Durgkondal and Antagarh in Bastar among others now have solar energy equipment installed in the district.

lighting through solar lamps help police personnel and make it easy to  counter the Maoists during an attack. In case of a black out or fault in power supply lines, solar lighting arrangements help in the restive regions.
