The activists of Janata Congress Chhattisgarh Jogi (JCC) (J) on Wednesday attempted ‘gherao’ of the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
However, the attempt of party workers to ‘gherao’ the State Assembly was foiled by the police near Avanti Bai lodhi Chowk in the city.
The police had to resort to light cane charge to disperse the workers.
The JCC (J) workers under leadership of Amit Jogi earlier had staged a sit-in for pressing their demand for imposition of complete prohibition, loan waiver of farmers, hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy at Rs 2100 per quintal, reservation of 90% jobs for local youth in government jobs among others.
After addressing the gathering, Amit Jogi left for New Delhi. The gherao attempt was later made by the activists under leadership of R.K. Rai, Siyaram Kaushik and Richa Jogi.
Police detained the agitating JCC (J) workers near Avanti Bai lodhi Chowk and minor scuffle between the workers and police was reported.
A light cane charge was also done by policemen to control the situation and prevent the agitated activists from crossing the barricades.
